Sarasota Opera

The Sarasota Opera House has just completed a multi-million dollar renovation and restoration. The project is designed to restore the historic 1926 theatre to its original glory, while creating a venue for opera for the 21st century. Decorative details have been restored, seating has been replaced, and the orchestra pit enlarged to allow for an expansion of the repertoire. Backstage systems have been updated and public areas and amenities expanded and enhanced. In November 2008 the company added a fifth opera to the season as part of a new Fall Opera and Outreach Season. This will mark the first time that Sarasota Opera has performed outside of its traditional Winter Season.

Florida West Coast Symphony

The Florida West Coast Symphony delights audiences on the cultural coast of Florida with over 100 concerts every season. Over the last six years, Artistic Director, Leif Bjaland, has led the orchestra in an unprecedented period of growth and artistic achievement. There is something for everyone at the Symphony, from the great masterworks to light classics and entertaining popular music. For classical music lovers, the orchestra presents seven Masterworks programs, a Composer's Series, and Salon Concerts of chamber music. Others will prefer the casual, high energy of the themed Great Escapes series or a pure pops concert with the full orchestra. In June, the annual Sarasota Music Festival presents faculty and students of the highest caliber.

Sarasota Orchestra

The Sarasota Orchestra is the oldest in Florida and the 80 members perform more than 100 classical, pops and family concerts each year. An arts leader in the community, the Sarasota Orchestra has a dual mission, dedicated to exquisite performance and first-class musical education. The Sarasota Orchestra's acclaimed music education program includes the 50-year-old Youth Orchestra, which features five ensembles – the most advanced of which, The Youth Philharmonic, made its Carnegie Hall debut in 2008.
